More Information on ExPDA

How scaleable is DTS's ExPDA solution?

We have tested the ExPDA on spreadsheets that have had many thousands of cells configured to take in real-time and static data and have found that they run very efficiently. Obviously there is some dependency on processor speed but performance also depends on network speed and interconnection bandwidth when transporting data between centres.

With each sheet configured to use ExPDA the only noticeable delay will be at the time the sheet is first opened and in some cases there will be no delay at all. Where a sheet has many thousands of cells configured to receive data the time to get the first update may be noticeable.

The ExPDA infrastructure has undergone many years of alpha and beta testing and has surpassed our expectations in terms of minimising latency.

Example uses of DTS's ExPDA

There are numerous applications for ExPDA whenever there is a need to share data between users in an organisation or between different organisations such as sharing your own data with your clients.

  • In a dealing room environment it is often necessary for one trader to want to see the real-time prices that another trader is quoting in order to know what the cost of his hedge would be. By having access to the actual price that is being calculated by the traders spreadsheet he can work out the his costs in realtime and not have to refer each trade to his colleague for a refresh of the hedge price.
  • When quoting prices to the market it is often necessary to know what limits are available for dealing with a particular counterparty. The limits are often managed and co-ordinated by a division that sits away from the dealing room. Instead of having to refer to the limit co-ordinators for each trade, having access to the available limit in real-time means that transactions can be completed with less administration and delay.
  • There are many casual users of real-time data in an organisation that only need occasional access to real-time quotes and instead of incurring the expense of a 3rd party real-time terminal, an alternative option is to subscribe to the data that these users require and make this available into Excel sheets where they can be used for specific calculations.
