Web Services for IT Dept Users and Software Development Roles Working in Banking and Hedge Funds

Many professionals involved with software development and especially those that are involved with the development of the Internet believe that the progress towards Service Oriented Architecture (“SOA”) will rapidly replace the development of Web based individual software solutions and that it will not be long before software as we currently know it will have changed radically.

Desktop applications will disappear over time.

The expectation is that with the growth of SOA that the Web itself will grow even more rapidly than we have seen in the past.

An integral part of the growth of SOA is the development of Web Services in all its various forms. Data was one of the first elements to be offered by suppliers as a Service but we are now seeing software and even platforms themselves being developed as Services.

Combine these with the ability to combine data and software Services to create “mashups” the growth of SOA is almost guaranteed to be the next big development in Web and software integration.

Web Services take various forms and include SOAP, REST, RSS, JSON and others.

Software and data companies involved in the supply of Web Services will provide a range of these options and others will be developed over time. The one thing that is becoming clearer as time goes by is that it is very risky for any data supplier or software development company to ignore the growth of this market trend.

At DTS we realized that the provision of Web Services was the way forward. In particular we realized that this was the way forward for the distribution of our Horizon market database.

However, we didn’t stop there. In designing our Web services architecture we also put together solutions that enabled us to provide our analysis and charting solutions as Web Services in their own right.

We do not intend stopping our on-going development there either.
