Web Services Usage FAQ's Unlike one of our competitors who use the slogan "Its not the data. Its the delivery" we prefer to think that "It is about the quality of the data as well as the range of delivery options". (Q1) What data can be accessed via your Web Services? (Q2) How do I know what format the SOAP messages take for different data requests? (Q4) Can I produce end of day tables of data on my web site with your web services? (Q5) Do you have any example applications that use your Web Services that I can trial? (Q6) Do you have any example web pages that use your Web Services as part of a "mash-up?"
(Q1) What data can be accessed via your Web Services? (A) DTS's Web Services have been designed to provide access to the entire Horizon Database. This includes all the historical market data that has been collected by DTS and goes back in many cases to before 1980. A summary of this data can be found at the Horizon Collected Data link. In addition, the Web Services can be used to access all the Derived Data produced by DTS. This includes discount factors, yield curves and comprehensive forward/forward data. This data can be retrieved as historical time series or as daily snap-shots. This data can be used for stress testing and VAR analysis as well as many other risk management applications. (Q2) How do I know what format the SOAP messages take for different data requests? (A) As part of the Web Services package DTS provides full on-line documentation with the nomenclature of the SOAP messages. In addition DTS provides on-line access to all error messages that might be encountered when developing applications using the Web Services. We also have a number of sample applications that and web pages that provide actual examples of the way that the Services can be structured. We are prepared to provide these applications as the basis of users own development or as stand-alone applications to be used under license. (Q3) I assume I can access all the history on your Horizon database, but what about the value added data like discount factors and forward/forward rates? (A) Absolutely. The Web Services can be used to access all the Derived Data produced by DTS. This includes discount factors, yield curves and comprehensive forward/forward data. This data can be retrieved as historical time series or as daily snap-shots. This data can be used for stress testing and VAR analysis as well as many other risk management applications. The variety of applications for the data (both historical raw data and derived data) is vast. The business areas within financial institutions that will be interested in the Web Services include front office, mid & back office, funds management, risk management, IT development and data centre departments. (Q4) Can I produce end of day tables of data on my web site with your web services? (A) This facility will be available in the next few weeks. (Q5) Do you have any example applications that use your Web Services that I can trial? (A) We will be adding links to a range of sample applications that use our Web Services in the next few week. (Q6) Do you have any example web pages that use your Web Services as part of a "mash-up?" (A) We will be adding links to a range of sample applications that use our Web Services in the next few weeks.
